“Stick-To-Itiveness”
That is actually a word found in the dictionary and it means fortitude, endurance, grit. Given that I just celebrated my 450th class at Barry’s Bootcamp, I think that word is apt. I’ve either got Stick-To-Itiveness or I’m a member of a cult because there is something about this particular workout, these particular instructors and those particular bright red, music-blaring studios that keep me coming back again and again. Barry’s refers to themselves as a “fam” which does have a cult-like ring to it and they do retain their “leaders” and “worshippers” for years. Always on the lookout for new blood, they try to lure innocent passersby with sidewalk signs tempting them with cheap introductory classes. The piece de resistance is that once the door closes behind you, the classes are really hard and not fun in the moment. But somehow, that is offset by the self-love and the communal-love that hits you as soon as the 45-minute torture session is over. That reminds me, gotta sign up for next week’s classes before they fill up!
