“Devil in the White City”
Admittedly this is an old book by now (published 20 years ago), but I just got around to reading it. More accurately, I listened to it with a free trial of Audible which in and of itself was a fantastic experience. Eric Larson wrote this “creative non-fiction” book that dovetails two stories: the lead up to and execution of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, and a serial killer who masqueraded as a charming doctor during that time. I so enjoyed listening to this story (the narrator was terrific and I realize that is key for a great audible experience) because it made my walks and runs just fly by. I was absolutely absorbed by the story - it was educational in a fun way but also gruesome in a diabolical way. I seriously didn’t want it to end.
