GRANDpa

Ed Roberts was GRAND - with capital letters - in so many ways.  It has been two weeks since my dear father-in-law passed away on February 27th, and while deeply saddened by his death, I am also deeply inspired by the legacy he left his family, his friends, the MIT community and the numerous people he touched throughout his remarkable life.  At the funeral, each of my children spoke lovingly and openly about the unique relationships they had with Grandpa. I didn’t quite appreciate how strong their bonds were until their eulogies were delivered (video in link below). Emails, FaceTimes and phone calls connected them to Ed when they weren’t with him at holiday meals, celebrations and family vacations. I realize it was these consistent, seemingly insignificant points of  “long distance” contact that created not just a close relationship, but an intimate one. I credit Mitch for occasionally encouraging the children to reach out to Gramps and Grandma, but it was Noah, Sabrina, Ethan and Ruby who made it a priority.  Ed, you have left an indelible mark on the entire family you created and nurtured. THANK YOU - WE LOVE YOU!
