Speaking Up

Do you know what I love about being older?  I love to speak up and not put up with services or products that should strive to please the customer, not disappoint them.  My favorite example is being shown to a table at a restaurant.  The (usually) young hostess will show us to “our” table while I simultaneously scope out the room for all possible options and make the split second decision of do I accept or reject?  On occasion, I politely ask for another table and that’s when my kids’ eyes roll and the complaints of my rudeness are fired at my back as we make our way to our new table.  While I lead our entourage, my head high and proud - Jill the Conqueror - my children hang their heads low in embarrassment.  But then we settle in, order our drinks and suddenly all is forgotten as we thoroughly enjoy our much better view, location and perfect table.
