Going to Synagogue
It has been 3 years since my mother passed away. Mitch and I observed her yahrzeit and actually went to Temple Emanuel for a short evening service for the first time in nearly 2 years. It was special and meaningful in a way that I frankly didn’t expect. Rabbi Aliza Berger’s excitement about conducting a service in person and maskless was palpable, and her singing and chanting like songs from heaven. We were a small minyan of about 15, and three of us shared very personal memories of our lost loved ones. There were tears and there was joy all bundled up in a traditional 20 minute service. But the depth and meaning of that post-pandemic experience will last me a lifetime. Amen.
