The Yellow House
As my daughter heads off to New Orleans on Tuesday to attend Tulane as a first year, I read her required reading: The Yellow House. It is Sarah M. Broome’s memoir of growing up in NOLA and the book is “dense with characters and stories. It’s a big, simmering pot that comes to a boil at the right times. But the central character may well be the yellow house of the title,” says the NYTimes. Sarah grew up in a family of 12 and it’s fascinating to learn how they navigated the effects of Hurricane Katrina before, during and after her appearance.
