Apocalypse Now & Hard Knocks
Movie: We just watched “Apocalypse Now” (1979) and though I had seen it before, it was like seeing it for the first time. It reminded me of the “The Wizard of Oz” in that the protagonist (a young Martin Sheen) is on a mission to find the elusive “wizard” (Marlon Brando). Along the way, he meets some rather bizarre characters (Robert Duval, Dennis Hopper). The film illustrates the horrors of the Vietnam War in a riveting and uniquely Francis Ford Coppola way.
4 Part Series: HBO’s “Hard Knocks” is aired every August just prior to the start of the NFL season. This year the episodes highlight both the LA Rams and the LA Chargers. I’m not a crazy football fan, but I love this production because it encompasses athleticism, competition, humor, drama and this year, how the teams deal with Covid.
