“Chimp Crazy”

If you got into “Tiger King” during the early days of the Covid lockdown, then you are going to binge watch this nutty documentary by the same director, Eric Goode (featured in “Listening” below).  This time, Tonia Haddix is the bigger than life - you can’t make this up - star of the show and she is obsessed with chimps.  It turns out there are plenty of people out there who raise baby chimps as if they are children - dressing them up, teaching them to communicate and even toilet training them.  The problem is that these cute little guys grow up to be very strong and dangerous, especially when kept in captivity in much-too-small habitats. You can watch the 4 episodes on Max but be aware that some scenes are  disturbing and at the same time fascinating. Fun fact:  Look for my sister’s name in the credits (Ilyse Wolfe Tretter) who did the music licensing for the series.
