CJP Rally for Students
While I was born in the 60’s, I was never part of a protest or rally to support a social cause that I felt strongly about. That all changed last weekend when I attended a CJP (Combined Jewish Philanthropies) organized rally in support of students who are experiencing anti-semitism on their college campuses. October 7 marked a huge crisis for Israel where hundreds of innocent victims were brutally killed, raped, assaulted and kidnapped. Their defensive posture to prevent further attacks has resulted in a huge resurfacing of anit-semitism, especially visible on college campuses. It is devastating to realize that hatred for Jews is still very real in 2024 and that “bright” young students are falling prey to woke culture like lemmings running off a cliff. But the Stand Up for Jewish Students rally gave me hope as 2,000 supporters peacefully gathered to hear Jewish student leaders (from Columbia, Emerson, Boston College, Northeastern) speak of their commitment to combat antisemitism among their peers. Their voices together with police enforcements are making small inroads in quelling the dangerous haters.
