The Heart’s Invisible Furies
The Heart’s Invisible Furies, by John Boyne, is a fictional epic story of Irish born, gay and charming Cyril Avery whom we watch grow up (in 7 year increments) in a rigid Catholic environment. Issues arise throughout the book that are thought provoking and honestly sad at times including treatment of unwed mothers, difficult family dynamics, and societal hatred of homosexuals. But there is also a lot of humor, dialog and special relationships that put a smile on your face as you read this lovely piece of work. The Nantucket Bookworks recommended it to me and I recommend it to you.
