Sunsets
An Appreciation for Sunsets by Bella Solanot
The sunset: An everyday occurrence that elicits marvel and wonder in our minds. We have all seen hundreds of sunsets in our life, some more incredible than others, some more impactful than the rest. But what makes a sunset so intriguing? It happens every single day, some days you can’t see it very well and others it looks as if the universe has painted an unbelievably beautiful mirage across the horizon that we can’t look away from. This simple daily ritual between the sun and Earth brings people together, it marks the end of another day and takes up a considerable amount of storage in our camera roll. Why? Why do we care so much about a light show with pretty colors? It’s a reminder that we are a part of something greater than ourselves, that our troubles and worries pale in comparison to the enormity of the galaxy and its power — yet the same mind and soul of human beings that creates such anxiety and worry is the same mind and soul that has derived such meaning from colors in the sky, and therefore proves the powerful nature we hold within us. Sunsets offer a reset at the end of every day. They remind us to breathe slowly and appreciate Mother Earth in all her vastness. When the sun sets, the day ends, night commences, and we may be at peace knowing there is beauty all around us, and all we have to do is open our eyes and hearts enough to see it.
