“Acquired” Podcast - Hermès
I have a new podcast to recommend thanks to my friend Joe. This description says it all: “Acquired is a depth-first show. Episodes are 3-4 hours long, and are better described as ‘conversational audiobooks’ than ‘podcasts.’" Every episode reflects an impressive amount of research as the two hosts, Dave and Ben, describe the history, strategy and remarkable stories of great companies. The first episode I chose to listen to features Hermès. It begins in 1837 when Thierry Hermès opens a shop to sell his exquisitely made horse harnesses. Six generations of the Hermès family have created a one-of-a-kind brand where many products are still made by talented artisans, not by machines. I love the witty, intelligent expression of both hosts and their podcast sounds more like a great book than a business school lecture. Yes, you’ll hear all about the Kelly and Birkin bags, but you’ll learn so much more.
