Magic Pill?

Technically, the GLP-1 class of drugs are most commonly injected, not swallowed and they were initially developed to treat diabetics. In recent months, several drugs have been developed, studied and marketed (like Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovi) showing they are very effective anti-obesity drugs that make weight loss much easier to achieve.  The drug reduces appetite leading to less calorie intake - simple as that. But it didn’t take long for those with money and access to use/abuse the drugs to lose just a little weight. Celebs like Mindy Kahlig, Kim Kardashian and Chelsea Handler got very thin fairly quickly.  Just 18 months ago, I started to see acquaintances who looked noticeably slimmer. They were hardly obese to begin with but suddenly they went from “normal” to gaunt, down a size or two, within a few months. I must confess that a “magic pill” that allows my body, not my mind, to do the disciplinary work of saying “don’t eat that” sounds very appealing, but the drug was not developed for me (nor those with a BMI of <27). My musing is if and when this drug  - a true boon to drug companies’ bottom line - will become as mainstream as Advil.  Comments welcome!
