Me-Haul

They say it’s good to get out of your comfort zone and that I did last week as I drove an 18’ U-Haul cargo van to NYC in the rain with Sabrina as passenger.  Driving in snow storms or hydro-planing in rainstorms is a white-knuckle experience.  But to do it in a very large, very unfamiliar vehicle in which I felt like a small child, with my daughter on board along with ALL her possessions was anxiety inducing.  Laser-focused and entertained by a few podcasts, we made it to our destination - NOHO - in rather good time.  While I couldn’t wait to return the rental vehicle that afternoon (I took the train back to Boston), driving that beast of a van gave me new confidence. I’m not sure if my goal setting should include driving the 26’ U-Haul truck next time I move a kid to a new city, but I do know it’s important to get out of our comfort zones once in a while and put ourselves to the test.
