Prefontaine
On your plane ride down to New Orleans or in the comfort of your home, I suggest watching this slightly quirky but really fascinating film about elite runner, Steve Prefontaine. If you read “Shoe Dog” then you may recall how Prefontaine was a world-record breaking 5K track star at University of Oregon who also competed at the Munich Olympic games in 1972. With dashing good looks and ridiculous confidence, the viewer gets a glimpse into Steve’s complicated relationships and drive to be the best. Made in 1997, the film is dated in some ways, but Jared Leto (gorgeous!) and the supporting cast are excellent. Available on Netflix.
