“Women Talking”

Sarah Polley just won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay (she directed the film as well).  That pleased me very much because as I watched it, I was captivated by the eloquent and intelligent rhythm of the dialog that flowed like poetry.  Indeed much of the film captures Mennonite women seriously debating whether they should flee their colony or remain and fight the men who sexually abuse them and their daughters.  This is a soulful, beautiful film that relies simply on great actresses (some famous, some not), great writing and emotions that draw the viewer in quite deeply.  It’s neither depressing nor boring.  It is hopeful and lovely.
