New Age J.A.P. (Jewish American Princess)

I have been blessed to live an easy life pre and post-marriage.  Good health, education, and a loving family.  But one of my kids loves to call me a “New Age J.A.P.”  Born and raised in the small town of Plattsburgh, NY, I lived a simple life and had a mullet.  But I jumped ship to Boston where I now live in “glamorous” Newton, home to a Bloomingdale's and 90,000 people.  Perhaps, it is this transformation of a country girl turned New Age J.A.P. that explains my whining about the current state of affairs in Nantucket.  The good news is that with the pandemic mostly behind us, the island is back to normal, more alive than ever.  The bad news is that the summer population has exploded, and the infrastructure can’t handle it.  Oh the woes of dealing with a poor infrastructure:  One cell tower on island means forget Google searches; so many cars means good luck finding parking (town or beach); so many mouths to feed means getting a dinner rez is equivalent to winning a gold medal.  But perhaps the biggest hardship is that my favorite ice cream flavor (and apparently everyone’s favorite ice cream flavor) - “C is for Cookie” - is always out!  This is probably a sign for me to go back to Plattsburgh to realign my values, to the place where Dairy Queen never runs out of Peanut Buster Parfaits.
