Splashdown. Re-entry.

Do you ever go away on vacation and have a really hard time transitioning back to reality? That describes my week having just returned home from a Carribean paradise. Mitch and I had the very good fortune to be invited by very good friends to sail around St. Thomas and St. John. Sergio navigated “Ritmo”, their gorgeous catamaran, from bay to bay for our 4 day excursion; Cynthia navigated our comfort - provisioning for and cooking every delicious meal and snack. I forgot what earthly life was like: the azur sea was our new, gigantic yard; salty sea air was our new oxygen and a bathing suit was our new “uniform”. Turtles the size of flying saucers and yard-long tarpon fish were our friendly neighbors. Gravity shifted as did my workout routine: snorkeling and paddleboarding superseded running and weights. I couldn’t stop saying “this is heaven” and I started to think that cocktails on the deck with a backdrop of mellow reds and oranges as the sun set was my new normal. Until it wasn’t. Alas, the abrupt re-entry into real life is a bit harsh, but that is surely what makes vacations so out of this world.
