“A Heart that Works” and “Stay True”
I recently read two memoirs that deal with losing a loved one. Each is very well written and the authors are extremely open and honest as they cathartically talk about the wonderful memories they have and the devastating loss they suffered. Rob Delaney, best known for his starring role in “Catastrophe” writes in a nearly untamed way, displaying vulnerability and even humor at times as he describes the journey of living with and losing his one year old son, Henry, to brain cancer. The Week deemed “Stay True” one of the five Best Non-Fiction books of the year. In it, Hua Hsu writes of his unlikely friendship with Ken at UC Berkeley with incredibly crafted prose and details that just draw the reader in. Their earthly friendship ended tragically when Ken was senselessly carjacked and murdered one night, but Hsu’s heavenly observations and memories will keep Ken alive forever.
