“Tony Hawk: Until the Wheels Fall Off”

Seriously one of the best documentaries I have ever watched.  Did I know or care much about skateboarding before watching this?  No.  But after viewing this film, I learned that passion, discipline, escapism, obsession and competitiveness not only fed Tony Hawk when he was young, but still do today at age 53.  His personal story has plenty of triumphs, but a lot of sadness as well.  Many of Tony’s skateboard contemporaries are interviewed and I must say the last 15 minutes of the movie encompass very deep insights.  All in their 50’s, these men lend a perspective about why Tony Hawk won’t quit and why they too will continue to abuse their bodies “until the wheels fall off”.
